MAINTAIN Your BEAUTY

of the Lower Jaw, Chin and Neck

While many patients focus on maintaining the beauty of their facial features, the importance of addressing the lower jaw, chin, and neck is sometimes overlooked. These areas can show signs of aging at different rates depending on genetics, with some individuals noticing concerns earlier than others. Issues such as jowls, a “turkey neck,” sagging skin, or lines/creases on the neck can detract from an otherwise youthful facial appearance.

Why 40- and 50-year-olds Consider a Neck Lift or Other Options

After the age of 40, signs of aging often become more noticeable in the neck. Many individuals begin to see a loss of definition beneath the jawline, sagging skin, or the appearance of neck bands. This occurs naturally as the skin loses elasticity over time, leading to concerns such as “turkey neck” or loose skin under the jawline. The definition of the chin may also diminish, contributing to the development of a double chin. Additionally, the platysma muscles on either side of the neck may weaken, making neck bands more prominent. A neck lift is specifically designed to address these concerns, restoring a smoother, more defined, and youthful neck contour.

What are some of the benefits of a Neck Lift?

A neck lift offers several benefits for individuals looking to enhance their appearance and address signs of aging in the neck and jawline area. Here’s why people consider getting a neck lift:

Address Common Signs of Aging

  • Sagging Skin: Tightens loose or “turkey neck” skin for a smoother, more youthful look.
  • Neck Bands: Reduces or eliminates vertical neck bands caused by loosened platysma muscles.
  • Double Chin: Removes excess fat under the chin, improving the jawline’s definition.
  • Loss of Jawline Definition: Restores a firm and sculpted jawline.

Achieve a Balanced and Youthful Appearance

  • The neck is often one of the first areas to show aging, which can contrast with a youthful-looking face. A neck lift harmonizes the neck and face for a more balanced, rejuvenated appearance.

Boost Confidence

  • Correcting visible signs of aging in the neck can enhance self-esteem, making individuals feel more confident in their overall appearance.

Long-Lasting Results

Unlike non-surgical treatments, which provide temporary fixes, a neck lift offers long-term results, often lasting 7–10 years or more, depending on factors like age, skin elasticity, and lifestyle.

Treat Concerns Resistant to Non-Surgical Options

  • Sagging skin, muscle laxity, and significant fat deposits often cannot be fully addressed with non-invasive procedures. A neck lift provides comprehensive correction for these issues.

Complement Other Procedures

  • A neck lift can be performed alongside other surgeries, such as a facelift or submental liposuction of the chin, to enhance overall results and create a cohesive, youthful appearance.

Customize Your Results

  • The procedure can be tailored to each individual’s unique concerns, whether it’s tightening muscles, removing excess skin, or targeting fat deposits.

Candidature for Neck Lifts

  •  Those experiencing significant neck aging not improved by skincare or non-invasive treatments.
  • Individuals in good health with realistic expectations.
  • People who wish to restore confidence and achieve a refreshed, natural-looking profile.

What to expect at the consultation for a Necklift with Dr. Alexander Digenis

A neck lift consultation is a vital step to ensure the procedure meets your needs and expectations. During the appointment, Dr. Digenis reviews your medical history, including any pre-existing conditions, previous surgeries, and current medications or supplements. He will discuss your specific concerns, such as sagging skin, neck bands, or a double chin, and your desired outcomes.

Dr. Digenis performs a thorough examination of your neck, jawline, and chin to assess skin elasticity, muscle tone, and fat distribution. Based on this evaluation, he creates a personalized treatment plan, explaining the procedure, type of anesthesia, and whether additional procedures like liposuction or a full facelift are recommended. You’ll also learn about the potential benefits, risks, and limitations of the neck lift, as well as what to expect during recovery.

You will then meet with a member of Dr. Digenis’ team who provides a cost estimate, including all associated fees. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions about the procedure, recovery, and results. Preparing your medical history and a list of questions ahead of time will help you make the most of the consultation.

What to Expect from Recovery from Neck Lift Surgery

Your necklift recovery will depend on age, skin elasticity, physical health, and other factors. Here’s a quick overview of a typical recovery timeline…

A Natural, Balanced Look

A neck lift performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Alexander Digenis achieves a natural, balanced look between the face and neck, helping patients appear noticeably younger without obvious signs of cosmetic surgery. Dr. Digenis ensures patients are well-prepared by providing comprehensive pre- and postoperative instructions tailored to their needs. Recovery times can vary depending on the individual and the complexity of the procedures involved. The following are some general recovery guidelines…

Immediately After Surgery

To help reduce swelling, Dr. Digenis requires patients to spend one night overnight in his Quad A certified surgery center. There, in the comfort of a private room, with a private nurse, your head will be elevated so as to minimize neck movement. You will be discharged the next morning by 8:00 AM.  Arrange for someone to assist you with daily tasks, especially during the initial recovery period. Spend the first day primarily resting in a semi-upright position to aid in healing. Dr. Digenis also encourages gentle walking to stimulate circulation and promote a smoother recovery but only with supervision.

First Week After Surgery

While a neck lift is less extensive than a facelift, it still requires ample recovery time, with most patients needing at least 1-2 weeks off work. To manage any discomfort, take prescribed pain medication as directed. Opt for clothing that fastens in the front to avoid pulling anything over your head. Bruising and swelling typically peak within the first 2–3 days before gradually subsiding.

A Few Weeks After Surgery

You can slowly reintroduce light physical activity, but it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting during the initial recovery period. It may take several weeks for the residual swelling to resolve, and the full results of your neck lift will become more noticeable as your body continues to heal over the next month or so.

Neck Lift FAQ

Click a question below to see the answer for some of the most common questions we receive from potential clients.

Dr. Digenis always says best results occur optimally after 6 months, but you should see immediate results after the swelling subsides, about 2 weeks post operation.

While a neck lift delivers long-lasting, remarkable results, it doesn’t halt the natural aging process. The procedure can effectively make you look years younger, and those improvements can be enjoyed for many years. As aging continues, some patients may choose to undergo a follow-up procedure in the future to maintain their refreshed appearance.

The cost of a neck lift varies based on the specifics of your surgical plan, the extent of the procedure, anesthesia, surgical fees, and other factors. Because of this, it’s not possible to provide an exact price without an in-person consultation with Dr. Digenis. However, Dr. Digenis’s coordinator can offer a general price range when you call to schedule your consultation, and a detailed, personalized cost estimate will be provided after your one-on-one evaluation with Dr. Digenis.
